How do I clean my door hardware?

If the door hardware is worth keeping, but it is old and tarnished, it might have been lacquered at one time, but is now weathered and black. To shine it properly, remove the pieces from the door. Strip the metal with a lacquer stripper, and polish with Wenol. Simply maintain the brass by polishing it every few months or so. The use of Faucet Brite will keep the unlacquered brass cleaner longer. If you desire a lacquered finish, after thoroughly cleaning the metal, spray it with a lacquer spray made especially for brass used outdoors. Follow the lable's directions. If you have a metal clad door, the hardware will always tarnish again from the interaction of the steel and the brass. Remember, Baldwin Lifetime FinishTM products never, ever need stripping or polishing, even on a metal clad door.

How do I clean my outdoor lanterns?

If your lanterns are made by Baldwin with the Lifetime FinishTM, wipe clean with a damp cloth. A window cleaning spray can be safely used on the glass and the metal. If they are lacquered brass, they are very difficult to clean. It is not worth the time and the effort for the results you will achieve by trying to strip the lacquer and polish the metal. It is recommended that Baldwin Lifetime FinishTM lanterns be used for a long-lasting shine.

How do I care for my brass mailbox?

The brass mailboxes that we provide are the finest available at this time. They are American made with a strong, resistant lacquer. Special care will keep them shining for years. When your mailbox is new, give it a few coats of Faucet Brite or a good quality car wax. Do not wait to do this, as, the coating will bond to the lacquer and make it longer lasting. Repeat this application every few months. The mailbox should be free of grit before applying the wax, otherwise the grit will scratch the surface. (Just wash and dry the mailbox first.)
