What are carpet rods used for?
In the
old days, carpet rods actually held the carpet runners in place
on stairs. These fasteners would allow the home owner to periodically
move the runner to evenly distribute wear over fine carpeting.
Carpet rods also allowed removal of the runners for cleaning in
the days before vacuum cleaners. The home owner could simply bring
the carpet outdoors and shake off dirt.
Today our carpet runners are installed by tacking them to the
staircase. This way, the carpet runner cannot shift out from under
our feet, which would be dangerous.
The carpet rods and bracket sets, today, serve a decorative function,
adding warmth and richness to your home. By highlighting your
staircase and your fine carpeting, the carpet rods provide the
finishing touch to a well-dressed home.

How long should my carpet rods be?
Traditionally,
the carpet rod brackets lined-up with the sides of the runner.
To install the carpet rods using this method, simply measure the
carpet width, then add 1 ½ inches to determine the correct
rod width. Keep in mind, however, that the rod can extend over
the runner by up to 2 inches on the sides and still look good.
The choice is up to you!

How do I cut carpet rods?
To cut
the rods, use a hack saw or pipe cutter to make a clean cut. Don't
worry about the cut end looking jagged; file it lightly, the rest
will be hidden by the carpet bracket and will not show. Always
remember to wear safety glasses when working with any metal cutting
tools.
Remember: Carpet rods cannot be returned
once they have been cut. If your unsure about what your doing
contact a professional carpet installer or carpenter. Full
directions will accompany your order.
